I am presently looking at a 1986 41' convertable with twin DD 6V71 TI's rated at 465hp. The engines have slightly over 1200 hrs. Is there a general rule of thumb (engine hours) when I could expect to have to perform a major overhaul. No problems are reported, all maint. performed over the years. Thanks, joesig |

If you run her hard, you could see 10k hours. She's probably used up half of that by sitting at the dock for 26 years minus (1200 hrs). Lots of 6-71 N/A's get that but w/turbo and being the relatively rare vee version, you might tread carefully. |
