MD5A SUPERB STARTER/RUNNER OVER HEATS WHEN UNDER LOAD,CHECKED 1.WATER STOP COCK. 2.IMPELER 3.REMOVED THERMOSTAT 4.FLOW OF WATER AT EXHAST MANIFOLD. 5.FLOW OF WATER AT TRANSOM ALL ARE FINE. I THINK THAT THE PROB IS IN THE WATER GALLERIES IN THE HEAD/BARREL AREA. HAS ANY ONE ANY IDEAS........ MANY THANKS. RICHARD. |

Richard, Just an amateur here and do not know how similiar the 5 and 6 are, but on my MD6-A raw water engine I found a number of the circulation passages inside the heat exchanger on the manifuld were plugged. Enough were open to allow circulation out of the exhaust. I was able to restore all of the circulation passages in the heat exchanger by repeated overnight soakings of a Volvo Penta product called Neutra-Salt combined with probing and drilling with various items.
