Hello, let me start by saying my knowledge about engines is limited, this is my husbands area, but he is not a computer person.
We have a 31' commercial dive boat that we purchased last year. It has a TAMD 41B with 1700 hours on the meter. The boat had sat for about 2 years before we bought it last year. At that time we had to replace alot of parts from the turbo back to the outdrive. The engine seemed to run fine. We replaced all the zincs (some were non-existant)and changed the oil, air and fuel filter.
After making all the obvious repairs the boat performed great. With a 290dp running at 2400 rpms (I believe this to be correct)we were cruising at 21 knots and averaging 4 gph. After a few months of uses we notice that the crank case breather was blowing oil against the transom wall. We assumed it was plugged and changed the filter along with the oil. After a few day trips the new filter was again blowing oil. We were told that the filters need to be sealed with a liquid sealer where the metal is crimped or they will leak. So we changed it again and sealed the filter. Again, after a few uses we had oil blowing out. My husband read online that if you put a hose from the top of the crank case filter to the top of the air filter that would take care of the problem. First time out seemed fine, but then again we were only gone 1/2 hour. Next trip was an hour and by the time he arrived we was down 5 qts. of oil. Again, changing out the filters and adding oil. He has been buying and adding a Lucas oil addative to help stop blow-by but so far nothing is helping. Even under a load, taking the oil cap off and checking for blow-by doesn't seem to indicate a huge blow-by problem but obviously it is. No smoking or bad exhaust. No loss of power or poor performance. Just oil on the transom.
Any suggestions would be great. I would love to not have to replace an engine.
Thank you

1,try to replace the rear camshaft cover (with cc filter) to similar as the two front covers. Replace the rear valve cover with later model from P engine which has a brather hose stud. Add a hose (15 mm inside dia) and route it to air filter. If the engine has no cylinder /piston brakdown the problem is now solved.Maybe take a compression test first.
