Where did the engine block for the Volvo Penta Tamd 41a come from? I mean it must have started life as a car or truck engine before Penta did there thing and marinised it? |

It is strangely enough one of the only 'bigger' engines 'designed' from the bottom by Penta back in late 70 -early 80. Started out as AQD40 and went on. |

I have a Volvo Penta TAMD31M, 3000 hours approx. My problem is that used engine oil slowly accumulates in the hollow in the casting section which carries the left rear engine mount. As far as I can see it is leaking out of the after/inter cooler end cover joint which is straight above where the oil collects. If this is so, why is there oil in the aftercooler? Can it be coming from the turbo bearing lubrication or can it be coming from the rocker cover breather tube which feeds into the air intake of the turbo? Any comments would be very gratefully received. |

Could be coming from either location. Cooler separates oil from air and settles to bottom of case. There is a drain hole in case for condensation. Continued low speed operation can add to turbo seal leakage. Over full oil level also. |
