Was running 20 kt and then without warning the out drive top end exploded. The main drive gear from just passed the u-joint came apart blowing the upper case out.After checking out part list discovered the gear that came apart has a new part #. Can anyone tell me if the old part # was defected hence the new #.Oil was full, with no water in outdrive,correct oil was used,teeth on gears were not missing like it slipped. I believed it just came apart.}}}}}} |

What kind of motor?
What kind of props?
Is 20kts pushing your boat hard?
Was your drive shifting hard?
If it was, the brass ring under the lower gear holding the shaft was worn. As it gets thinner, it will get so weak it will adventually break and send the shaft right through the top cover! |
