Aloha,
I have a problem with a cracked copper washer in between the upper gearset, (gearset part # 839027-0, #11 on the upper gearhousing diagram). Is it possible to unscrew the gearset and replace the washer? I tried to unscrew it to no avail, but if you look closely at the diagram it looks like it does unscrew... I have tried to press a used washer in, but it cracked..see pic below. I have been running it like this but want to tear it down and fix it as well as replace the bearings in the lower unit. Could this be causing or contributing to the hard shift bang when shifting into reverse? It does not seem like it will go anywhere...especially with the shaft in the middle.
I am ordering a new wear ring per Morton's advise, but would like to fix this once and for all while I am am in there. |
