Volvo D4 engine kills in neutral

The engine brakes down when you put it from forward or backward into neutral. Probably something with the shift actuator but the mechanics are still searching. Could swap over actuator's,re-adjust neutral with key on.See if fault swaps side?? Does it happern from cold or after a run??
