After reinstalling newly rebuilt injector pump on MD6A and setting the timing, venting the lines, etc. we are unable to start the engine. EWe suspect the timing is the issue. Volvo manual says to set the timing to the #2 cylinder, but does not indicate which is the #2 cylinder. Also, it is not clear whether aligning the mark"1' on the water pump gear to"1" on the intermediate gear is critical to the timing. We also wonder if the timing mark in the injector pump may have been positioned imprperly in the rebuilding.Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

Doug

How can you be sure that #0 and #2 positions on the intermediate gear line up with the respective marks on the camshaft and crankshaft gears when #1 is lined up to the water pump gear, as the timing gear cover hides marks #0 & #2 and has not been removed to reinstall the injector pump (The intermediate gear has not been removed). As the gears are different sizes all three marks may not line up with each revolution of the gear.

Thanks - Bill
