The up/down trim relays failed so I replaced them only to fail again on first day of use. I would have thought if it were an electrical problem the fuse would blow.

When you say trim I assume you mean the lift/trim for the outdrive. Is it a 280 with the screw type lift or newer one with hydraulic lift? On one of my 280 lifts that runs the screw type if you tighten the black cover that goes over the relays too tight it stops working, when you loosen the cover screw a bit- it works fine. There are a lot of wires crammed in there connected to the two relays. I need to go through them and find which one is corroded or the wire is loose going into the push on connector. You may have the same issue.
The relays don't usually go out unless they get corroded. Fuse only blows if it draws too much current(short). Yours sounds more like something is not connected properly because of corrosion or loose crimp(open). |
