My MD11C starts OK and will run at idle all day. However if you put it in gear and run it up to around 1800 RPM it will start to falter and if throttle is increased it will run but starts putting out black soot and unburned fuel in the exhaust. Injectors have been rebuilt as has the injector pump. I did try taking the filter element out of the Volvo filter canister. This helped in that I get full throttle in neutral but still had the problem after around 2100 RPM in gear.
Any thoughts?

Fixed. Turned out to be an air leak.

Hi,
I get a similar discharge of black soot in the exhaust under load at around 2400 rpm. I assumed this was due to overloading the engine. What air leak did you have that you fixed |
