I am looking at a boat with this engine. I am not too familiar with diesels. The engine has about 1300 hours on it(assuming it has been taken care of). Is this due for an overhaul in the near future? What are the pros/cons of diesel? Is the Volvo Penta hours TAMD70C a solid dependable engine?

70's were great old school diesels. Ran forever but tended to smoke and are heavy. Components on engine are where you are going to run into trouble. Heat exchangers are NLA and other accessories are hard to find. Last production was 1978. So you can see how parts might be a problem. 1300 hrs is not alot for that engine. |
