more on the 2003 subject. I've heard that to winterize this engine, you need to unhook the fresh water intake hose and submerge it in a pail of antifreeze, start the engine and wait until it appears at the exhaust. Is this right? Can I use auto antifreeze? or, should it be the rv type? does it matter? tnx |

I did that last year with a 2003 saildrive. It worked fine. I closed the intake valve and removed the hose entering the engine water pump. (Raw water cooling.) I put a longer hose in place to reach the cockpit of the sailboat. I put that in a 5 gallon bucket of RV (pink) antifreeze. It sucked up about 2 gallons before it came out the exhaust. I shut it down, closed the valve, and reconnected the engine hose. I think RV antifreeze is best since some winds up in the water. Auto antifreeze is toxic. |
