I am considering buying a 1994 Mainship with Marine Power 454 EFI freshwater cooled engines. Assuming very good maintenance, how many hour should the engine last until requiring a rebuild - and how long should rebuilt last - again assuming proper use/maintenance. Other sources to get this info appreciated too. |

Mike, I had this same engine in my 92 Luhrs. In fifteen years I never had an issue with either engine. These are great engines with very little that can break. The only place sea water touches is the raisers. I have been told by friends involved in marine racing that outside of being a fuel hog the 454 is a great marine engine and with regular replacement of the raisers and manifolds (4 to 5 years salt water and 7 to 8 for brackish water) the engine will easily do 1500 hours. |
