Hi,
I have a heavily modified chevy 283 which has a 327 core so a 4" bore and 3.25" stroke. I have seen references to several different hp ratings for the 327. What factors (eg, carb, crank, cam etc) also factor into the hp rating of an engine besides the block? Is it possible to figure out what hp an engine has by taking into account all these things?

Lori, Most good machine shops that rebuild engines should have a computer program that can give you a ballpark figure on the horsepower of your engine. All they need is the specs of everything on and in your engine. Remember, this could just be a make you feel good number, the only true way would be to put the engine on a dyno. Fred |
