Boy, what a help you guys are. Now that you've helped me figure out what my engine is, how about the V-Drive? The boat is a 1973 Luhrs 25 Sportfisherman, and the engine is a 318, possibly the original. I've been poking around the tranny and gears for numbers, and I've come up with the following: W-12878 and W-12730 on the gears and 20 W-12746 on what I'm calling the intermediate section between the tranny and the gears. Do you know if these numbers are indicative of a particular make? I hope you don't mind me picking your collective brains... |

charlie, I have a 72 Luhrs flybridge sedan w/ a 318. it had a walter vee, rv20d- 1:46-1 ratio. thats what was in mine. I recently changed the vee, ( the casing rotted out). I found a walter rv26d, which suceeded the previous drive, (now also obsolete). you would have to raise the motor up about 1/16", and play with the trans mounts to get it aligned right. The trans should have a plate on it stating the type, as well as the vee drive. Trans should be a borg warner 71c velvet drive. both trans and vee are hard to come by now, but still can be found. The I.D plate on the vee will give you the ratio. |

Thanks, Russell, that's a great help. I'm going to keep poking around the tranny for more numbers. |
