I have a 440 Chrysler and transmission in a classic boat. The unit works great, recently I have done some upgrades on the motor, new pistons, intake manifold, heads, carb, cam shaft etc. We converted the camshaft from the gear driven set up to a conventional chain and gear setup. The engine has been run on the test stand and works great. There are no tags on the engine or transmission, the gear box is a 1:1 unit and has been working fine. My question is what type of transmission do they run behind the big block Chryslers and how tough are they as I am running considerably more HP than stock. If it matters the unit is a 1970-1971 vintage, I also converted from raw water cooling to fresh water and removed the cast iron front cover and replaced it with a lighter aluminum cover and installed an aluminum water pump setup. Again any info on transmission type and model would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jim Dickson

I have a Paragon transmission in my '72 Century Arabian, if that helps.

Thanks,

Does it have a dipstick on the left hand, facing forward and the short shift lever on the right hand side.

Both the dipstick and shift lever are on the right if you are facing the bow
