I have a '63 Shepherd with twin 318's with electronic ignition (these are the later 318, not the early 'wide-block' version), connected to B-W VelvetDrive #308 gears . The exhaust manifolds have 'CHRYSLER' in 1 1/2" print on the outer surfaces, however, I can't find the Chrysler Marine ID plate the the sources I've seen say should be there. The left side of the ST block has the numbers ‘2536030 318-7’ and the PT manifold has ‘2846348’ on it. The carbs are Carter AFB's with a red tag with ’9203S’ at the top, ‘3131’ at the bottom left and '16’ at the bottom right.

I would like to know the year of manufacture for these engines, the HP rating for them, the correct Chrysler Marine model number, and the model (i.e. cfm) of the carbs. Thanks in advance to all for your help.

Humm.. The carbs are around 600 cfm--more than enough. OSCO makes replacement manifolds that are easier to work on and last a long time. They fit virtually any of the later 318s/ 360s, but check the gaskets carefully! I've learned to use early Chrysler 273 V-8 gaskets on mine to get a better seal--the ports on the marine engines are tiny compared to the street engines. Also, the one piece gasket sets avoid getting the end gasket in the wrong orientation, which is damn easy to do.

Jeff:

Thanks for the info regarding the carb', but I still would like to know about the engines themselves: are they in fact 318's or are they 360's, when were they built, and what horsepower and Chrysler Marine model number are they?
