I want to rebuild the two Carter Fuel pumps on my SB GM based Crusaders. I can find lots of web sites with the pumps, but no parts. Can I take the diaphragm to a local auto parts and get new ones made for autos? Also, where can get new clear bleed hose? |

Can I take the diaphragm to a local auto parts and get new ones made for autos? You can but the auto diaphragm is a different beast; take it apart and you'll see. Also, where can get new clear bleed hose? If you are talking about the tubing that runs from the pump to the carb. it is good old TYGON (yellow tint). You should be able to get it at an chainsaw/lawnmower shop very economically. it is called a "sight tube". Take a section with you or measure the hose barb at the carb fitting. |

I know of no one that has had an marine fuel pump overhaul kit or has touched one in years. You can try a www search but I think new ones are on the "highly likely" list. I'm sure if somebody know different, they'll post a response. |

I have a reasonably good source for some engine parts and I could not find anything about rebuild kits for the fuel pumps...New ones are not too cheap either. I wonder what the consequences of going electric would be? |

Al, I would rather stay with the mechanical pumps. These pumps are most likely 20 years old, so I'm not sure if the parts will like the Ethanol in today's fuel. Maybe I need to just buy new pumps at 100+ bucks each. I did order 2 Qjet overhaul kits from Cliff (and his book) and he tells me all the parts are Ethanol tolerant. |

All the stuff i seen from Cliff has been primo stuff. He's done his homework! On the pumps, I've got one going on 13 years and it hasn't objected to the ethanol yet. i think the pumps have always been pretty tolerant of ethanol. |
