Hopefully a moderator can flag or pin this so it stays easy to find. Since this regularly comes up here is the procedure straight from the "Crusader Marine Engine Operation and Maintenance Manual"
1. Ensure crankcase oil is at proper level
2. Ensure battery fully charged
3. Operate engine until normal operating temperature.
4. Turn ignition switch off
5. Ground coil high tension lead to block
6. Remove all spark plugs
7. Open throttle to wide open position, ensure choke valve in air horn is fully open.
8. Install compression gauge
9. Crank engine to achieve maximum reading on compression gauge (normally 5-6 strokes)
10. Repeat on each cylinder
"A uniform variation of +/- 20 psi from 130-170 psi is permissible, however the compression of all cyclinders should be uniform within 10 psi. |
