I was reading under the Mercruiser discussion of what kind of oil filter to use. A party asked if an automotive filter could be used on a 305 merc. A reply was use Merc or Wix and stay away from Fram. My twin 454's both have Fram PH8A's on them. Is there something I should worry about with the Fram oil filters?

Not really, but it's one of those "Ford!--Chevy!" deals.

What is the common practice, 40-50 hours/or every 3 to 4 months? I should just look in the maintainance book but I'll test you guys. Thanx

It is of my opinion that oil and filters be replaced around the 35 hour mark. For me that makes it at mid season. Each captain will have their own thoughts.I look at my engines in the livingroom, so to speak, and surely want to take care of them, even if its for their location alone....Todd
