The ignition switch is about the only choice for a switched +12vDC source without adding some wires, etc.

The adjustmment is by moving the bakelite dial covering the spring.

Not being a smarta$$ but how do you know if it needs adjusting if you don't have power to it?

My friend removed it thinking it was broken with out checking if it's getting power. So now I gotta figure out how to properly set it up.

Here is a wiring diagram for your engine, why wouldn't you pull power from the alt?

As I stated above. There is no power coming out of accessory side of the alternator where it was connected to. instead of getting a new alternator, I might just get the power somewhere else for now. Do you happen to know what kind of alternator I can use just in case I decided to replace it?

As far as the choke adjustment, you line up the index mark on the housing with the index mark on the cover. to see a picture, go to books.google.com, and then enter this

+doug +roe +rochester +choke +adjustment

as your search string. There should be one result.

don't forget to tighten the screws when done and to check operation once the engine is running. It should be open after a few minutes.
