Need more info regarding which type of cooling system this has..... Open system (raw water cooled), or Closed Cooling (heat exchanger)!

Apparently there is an area on a Cobra drive that can hold water. Many will remove the drive to prevent this from freeze damage due to expansion. I'm not an OMC guy, but this is what I hear them discussing.

This will help get you started, everyone has their own little tricks and methods, the procedure outlined in the OMC factory manual is a good one!

Bob, you are correct.... many do have their own tricks that work for them... I have a few of my own.... so I agree!
And Dave's article is very well written.

The only thing that I could add to Dave's procedure, would be to definitely have a helper kill the ignition while you continue to fog. I do not care for the choke method due to en-richening the fuel while the engine shuts down. We want the fogging solution to be as full strength as possible and to not combust.
You can properly fog a carbureted engine in 6 - 8 seconds... and it can be the very last item on your list.

Also, just an FYI.... most factory marine V-8 engines will use a dual plane intake manifold....of which means that we must spray an equal amount of fogging oil into each plane in order to gain protection equally into each cylinder bank. IOW's, equally into both primary throats of the carburetor!

As a suggestion only.... and while everyone's intent is good, I think that it is advisable to use forum winterizing suggestions as a supplement ONLY to your correct year/model engine/drive OEM manual instructions.
There is room for misinterpretation and misunderstanding when we non-technical writers attempt to give this information on a forum. And then you have the reader who also may misinterpret a portion.... or not fully or correctly explain his question.
There's already enough room for error while a non-pro attempts winterizing for the first time.
Use caution.... you have a lot at stake here.

I don't mean for any of that to sound snobbish. In my 40+ years as a mechanic I've seen some of the sad cases come spring time.

I agree about the fogging, that's why I'm a 2 fisted fogger (never mind Frank!), I spray enough down both sides until I see the white smoke and then full spray with 2 cans at the same time until she quits, I don't choke it off.

I couldn't agree more about the manual....I don't understand why someone will spend $$$$ on a boat and they won't buy a manual?
