Outdrive interchange

Will it fit on a older late 70's outdrive? Or what do I need to find out to help out better? Im, new to omc and my boat needs a lower end. Any 1982-1985 800 series mechanical shift lower unit will work for you from V6 or any V8, but must be from that narrow window of years. 1970's not compatible.
