1st: Can it be disconnected from the drive and pulled out without dismantling the drive?
2nd: Recommend a good manual to help me with this and reconnecting all the various hoses/wires.

Thanks,
Rod

the factory manual only way to go. All wiring simple connectors- most of it stays with the engine. You have the one and only style of outdrive where it is actually possible to pull the engine and not disturb the drive. Depends on the boat design which way is best. Some I take the drive off first and then pull the intermediate and engine out together...others, if I can get all the bolts, I just pull the engine. Why you pulling it?

One head was cracked, which I had fixed and valve job on it and the other. Now (2 years later) I need to pull the block, disassemble, and have it checked for cracks, then re-assemble if its good.
I was the same guy asking you about short block!
Still weighing my options, but either way, old block has to come out...

I actually thought of a way to ship the motors UPS - block in one box, all internals in another and buyer reassembles.
I have new 3.8 heads too.
Putting this in a boat tomorrow.... touch of OMC blue so it doesn't look too mercruiserish....

cool, kinda Batman colors!
mine is all silver, don't know what that means if anything.
Sharks just won in OT, not a big Hockey fan, but I'm happy!

Motor is out and now taking apart. Looks pretty good inside, considering I pulled 4 gallons of milkshake out of it!
