Hi I have trawled through this forum for quite a while now and have seen some similar problems, trouble is, no one confirms what sorted the problem out! My Volvo AQ130c revs up great in neutral and in reverse(!?), however in gear it does not get up over 3000 rpm. I have, based on what I have seen on this forum; 1. Installed new plugs and leads 2. Cleaned distributor and installed electronic ignition to replace points 3. Installed new Coil 4. Ran off a petrol can 5. Set timing as per manual 6. Replaced distributor cap I now have the boat out of the water, and have got a compression tester which I am going to do this week. I am also going to clean the carbs out. Any other ideas? This problem came on suddenly, previously getting out to the creels at 30+ Knots. I am in the Outer Hebrides off the north west coast of Scotland and am now spending the dark evenings reading completely unrelated discussions on marineengine.com! Great site. El Pescador, if you fancy a job in the hebrides sorting out boats give me a shout!! PS If I get this problem sorted on my own, I will post the solution!! Regards MacLeod |

MacLeod, welcome! I don't have much advice for you other than to be sure that the throttle plates in the carbs are open all the way at full throttle (check with the engine stopped!). I had the same problem one time with my AQ130C and I discovered that the carb linkage was broken and not allowing the carbs' to open all the way. Once I fixed the linkage, all was OK. |

Thank you very much Bob, I have a feeling its something to do with the carbs. I'll let you know how I get on. Regards MacLeod |

It was the carbs!! Compression was consistent on all 4 cylinders. Got a kit and sorted them out, must have been a gradual build up which eventually clogged one up completely. I found some voltage drop while I had the boat out of the water, replaced wires and cleaned connections. It's amazing the difference that just doing that made, runs much more smoothly. So if anyone is losing power from their old AQ130c go straight to the carbs first! Thank you. |

Carl, welcome to the forum. For best results it's usually best to start a new topic for something like this. In any case, the AQ130C will have a water pump mounted to the front of the engine just to the right of the pulley. |
