How do you pull the lever out so you can put the new seal in on a 270 outdrive?

Look at this link

Remove the 4 screws 68, pull the cover with the eccentric piston, then remove the two pins 65 and 66, then remove the piston so that you can access the seal.

Also, consider getting a copy of the Seloc manual, or consider downloading this pdf manual.

El P. Not stepping on your toes here, but for a first timer doing this, this may be helpful:

Note that you may find two scenarios for the little roll pin/spring pin that keeps the detent pin in place!

A. parallel with the eccentric piston.....
or......
B. one perpenticular to the eccentric piston.

For either, you will need a special drift punch of the correct diameter in order to remove the roll pin/spring pin.

If you find the parallel pin, you will need carb cleaner to dilute the oil so that the pin can be removed from the eccentric piston after removal. (they do not want to come out of the brass bore easily..... the oil film holds them in place)

Whether Sierra or OEM, the new "Double Lip" seals are directional. There is an IN and OUTER side to them when installing.

Be sure to use a sealant such as Perfect Seal, and not grease.
