My friends boat shorted out both trim control relays on his 1996 Volvo Penta DP-S outdrives. New price is over $220!! They are the solid block assembly with two relays covered and filled with potting material and a 10 amp breaker button on top. Can't I just fabricate a relay assembly to replace this? Any suggestions? Please advise - thanks - David |

re: "shorted out both trim control relays " That's not a failure mode that I am familiar with. Exactly what did he do? |

My friend, a novice mechanic, had recently installed a new battery in a set of three (two primary, one for the generator) on dual 5.0 OMC / Volvo Penta engine/sterndrives. He left off a ground cable and had some confusing malfunctions on several on-board circuits. He called me and the best I could diagnose was that several circuits created there own impossible but true ground loops. I found the unconnected ground cable and everything is behaving themselves, more or less. Now, one of the trim relay assemblies reads constant continuity through battery positive to trim up motor power, regardless of switch position. The other will only trim down, but does obey the trim switch position. I would like to rebuild both of these – would you have the circuit function diagrams? What do you advise? |
