Its been awhile since I have been on here and when I was here you guys were great, I have what I think is a big problem, over the weekend I was out in my boat(Volvo4.3GL) and had a hard time getting up to speed sounded like it was flooding or choke stuck and when it did start to get some speed up it started to backfire so I let off the throttle then it died took forever to start but would not idle would die, then it would take alot to start again, the 3rd time of this once started it started making a loud rattling or knocking noise in from what it sounded like was the back of the motor, this only lasted a few seconds then the motor seized up,I tried a couple of times to turn the motor over but nothing, when tried you can see the motor jerk, afraid of damaging anything more I quit trying to start it,I am guessing I threw a rod, what do you guys think, backfiring, rough idle, dieing, hard to start, then loud rattling or knocking noise then sudden engine stop,it can't be good,is time for a new motor or rebuilt it, thanks in advance for any input on this

Sounds like it may have hydro locked due to water ingress. Try removing the spark plugs, then crank it by hand and see if there is water coming from any of the cylinders. Mind you, if you have bent rods then you have a big problem, as the crankshaft may also be damaged.

Thank you for replying back,I took all the spark plugs out,all plugs on the right looked good, bad news all plugs on left had water on them, really bad news middle spark plug was really damaged, looked like it had blown up and at the bottom of plug it had indents in it,tried to turn motor over by hand,no doing.
What should my next step be,pull the heads I am guessing and go from there. Thanks for your input

You will have to start by removing the exhaust manifold and break apart manifold and riser to see if the leak originated there. The next step would be removing the head.
