I have a 2004 VP 5.7 GXI freshwater cooled inboard engine with an automatic tensioner for the serpentine belt. I need to remove the belt but I'm not sure about the tensioner (looks like 2 pulleys). Can I loosen the tension by loosening the one bolt that holds the unit to the engine. Since it's spring loaded, I didn't know if I'd end up needed a special tool for this and end up running into a problem. Any guidance would be appreciated.

No special tools needed. Loosen the tensioner pulley center bolt. Insert a 1/2" breaker bar into the square hole on the lower edge of the tensioner and swivel the unit upwards to relieve belt tension.

Montery

Thanks, tried it and it worked, much easier than I originally thought!
