I have a 2004 VP 5.7 GXI freshwater cooled inboard engine with an automatic tensioner for the serpentine belt. I need to remove the belt but I'm not sure about the tensioner (looks like 2 pulleys). Can I loosen the tension by loosening the one bolt that holds the unit to the engine. Since it's spring loaded, I didn't know if I'd end up needed a special tool for this and end up running into a problem. Any guidance would be appreciated. |

No special tools needed. Loosen the tensioner pulley center bolt. Insert a 1/2" breaker bar into the square hole on the lower edge of the tensioner and swivel the unit upwards to relieve belt tension. |
