I am new to boating and the boat I just bought. It is a 1993 Excel 23ft with 5.7L volvo penta, and Volvo Penta SP drive. I was wondering what type of engine oil I should use when I change the oil and what to use in the drive as well. I know I have to pump the oil from the engine, but does the drive have a drain plug on bottom? I see something that looks like a drain. I just want to be sure. Thanks, Jeremy |

Jeremy, pick yourself up a real Volvo Penta OEM manual for your engine/drive combo. You really should have this anyway. If no history of recent bellows replacement (or other history), I'd sure encourage you to do this. Likewise with the Primary Drive Shaft bearings/seals. Your time/cost NOW will be paled by comparison should you have a failure in this area. Always best to verify these things for yourself, IMO. . |

Jeremy, above the starter in the engine block there should be a tag indicating the engine model.
Afterward, go to this site and download the owner's manual, which will contain the information you are looking for. http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/global/en-gb/marine_leisure_engines/engines/out_of_production_engines/out_of_production_engines.htm |
