My 350ci V8 has been giving us a real head scratching problem. We keep the boat in the water year round (B.C.). It can sit through the worst cold/wet and starts with a couple of cranks. At times when it has been running for a while or has been started for the second time it will run and then seems to cut out completely (tac drops to 0)and restart itself immediatly. This hicupping goes on for a while and then eventually goes away. I can stop it by moving the throtle to max, opening the other jets (4 barrel carb). The engine seems to speed up, run OK then and takes off....this isn't fun in a 5 or 6 foot chop and is hard on the old 20ft Bertram. I have looked down the throat of the carb and it seems that the choke is not on. Have you seen this problem before? I would appreciate some input. Thanks} |

Really need more info! Since this occurs at lower rpm range, I'd not necessarily think fuel starvation related, but none-the-less, this would be a place to start anyway. Check all from the fuel tank pick-up screen, anti-siphon valve, fuel filters, fuel pump, even the little filter inside of the Q-jet if so equipped. Look for any signs of water in your fuel that the filter is not catching. Now look to ignition. What type ignition does this engine have installed? Mechanical contacts (points) or electronic (magnetic or photo eye)? Have you replaced the igntion coil recently? . |
