Hello, I'm new to boating and just purchased a boat. I am needing a prop for it and I have no Idea what size or what it would be called or where to look. The boat is a 1993 Welcraft Excel 23FT closed bow, it has a 5.7L volvo Penta 572/PS, The numbers on the engine are 4100141428 which I believe is the SN#. The other number on it is the product number I believe- 868518. The drive is a Volvo Penta SP CO Trim. It has 17 splines for the prop. Any help would be great. |

Jeremy, you can find propellers everywhere on the internet including here. You can also try propmd.com or marinepartsexpress.com as they offer decent pricing...As far as size and pitch go, it is all a trial experience. You want a prop that makes the boat come up out of the water as well as having proper rpm at WOT... If you boat seems sluggish off the start and does not reach redline at WOT you need to decrease your props pitch. Examples: If your current prop is a 14x19 and it does not reach WOT(wide open throttle) RPM's or seems very sluggish coming out of the water i would suggest trying a 14x17 propeller. if your current prop is a 14x19 and it over revs the engine(too much RPM) i would try a 14x21 propeller. Like i said it is all a trial and error experience with propellers. also, go to www.marinepartsexpress.com and click on propeller basics. It kinda desribes how a propeller works and what size and pitch differences are. It breaks down on how to prop your boat based apon engine size, weight, HP etc... good luck and tight lines!!! |
