Got a few questions on another boat that im helping someone with. 1st question; when running sometime the exhaust does not come out of the drive it comes out right next to the transom theres a hole on the side of the drive with a tube coming out that seems to have the exhaust. Whats causing that? Is there a flapper in the exhaust bellows stuck. At high speeds some comes out the drive and rest come out that hole. Also warm water drains from it too which i guess is normal. Question #2; is there a trick to removing the prop i got center screw out of the cone and broke a screw driver before i relized the locking tab thing was attached. Any tips on clearing the locking tab to unscrew the cone? Its kinda a pain cause the cone goes partway into the propeller shaft and there is little slots in the prop to get to the tabs. Otherwise the engine runs good, doesnt overheat it has the Chev 305 in it, other than u have to pump it to start when the engine sits for longer than an hour. Thanks in advance. |

Regarding your first question, check this http://www.marineengine.com/discus/messages/12487/191769.shtml Regarding the prop removal, you have to bend the tabs forward to clear them from the prop nut. |

It kinda looked like that one in the picture, the pipe was cut at an angle (like a half pipe) and its on the starboard side of the out drive. The drive itself doesnt have a flapper on it. When at idle a lot of exhaust comes out this, but sometimes it comes out the drive. By the looks of it he's do for some new bellows anyways. Or its leaking else where, cant imagine so much exhaust coming from a lil tube. As far as the bending of the tabs i tried but they didnt budge, i probably wasnt using enough force. |

If the tabs won't budge, you need to use a punch or a screwdriver and a hammer to punch them forward. |
