Putting a new exhaust bellows with internal flappers on my Volvo 270 outdrive. Having a time getting it back on. Any suggestions. I started by securing the engine side first. Weep hole down. Must be a trick to get it together. Help.

No trick, try engine side first, then lower the outdrive almost all the way down and slide the other side of the bellows in. Tighten the hose clamps and you are done.

About the weep hole... I just replaced my exhaust bellows on my AQ131a/275 with Sierra Marine P/N 18-2758. I didn't see a weep hole. I did see a round "bump" of material on one of the corrugates, and it was 180 degrees opposite the "UP" mark on the engine end. Should I take a blade and make a small hole where this "bump" is located?

Thanks

I wouldn't bother making a cut.

You should be able to find the drain hole midway at the bottom side of the exhaust belows; it is slighly bigger than a pinhole. It is important that the hole is open if you trailer the boat so that there is no water left in the exhaust pipe, as that water can lead to corrosion and moisture inside the engine cylinders and also corrode the exhaust pipe.

Be careful with making "cuts": the exhaust gas pressure may end splitting the bellows if the cut propagates under pressure. However, a round hole like the one made during the manufacturing should be OK.

I just went out and double checked. There is a weep hole. About 1/16" in diameter. I guess the "bump" I described was left from the injection molding process.

Oops.

Thanks, anyhow!
