Can anyone tell me where the engine "temperature sensor" is on my 1999 5.7L Volvo Penta engine? I just replaced my original engine with a Vortec engine and I want to make sure I have the temperature gauge connected before I run the engine. I expect to see a sensor somewhere near the thermostat, but I don't see anything anywhere that looks like a temperature sensor.

Oh Shoot! I am wondering if I chucked the sensor in the trash when I moved all the parts from my old engine block over to the new block!?!? I don't see any left over wires just hanging in the bilge. I will keep looking.

Does anyone have a diagram of where the temperature sending unit goes and the wire connection? Does it go in place of one of the draing plugs in the block?

Excellent. Thank you.

I still can't identify the wire that attaches to the cooling sending unit though. Does anyone know what I should look for?

engine temp sender should be in the thermostat housing. The sender mounted on the block`s coolant drain is a knock sensor.
