Per the Seloc manual, page 8-57, step #11:
"Install the double set of seals into the propeller shaft housing, back-to-back, flat side-to-flat side. Install the first seal with the flat side facing OUTWARD."
"Install the second seal with the flat side FACING the flat side of the first seal. The seals are now back-to-back."
Wouldnt the first seal have to be installed facing INWARDS in order to permit the two seals to be face-to-face? I believe these types of seals work in the manner that pressure from the fluid (outdrive oil) collapses the rubber of the seal around the rotating shaft. To accomplish this the second, or 'inside' seal must face outwards. The first, or 'outside' seal would then have to face inwards - contradicting the Seloc manual.
I am referencing OUTWARDS as the direction facing the prop.
Any thoughts here? Thanks. |
