You have to pull the engine to get the shaft and bearings out.

Yes, you should remove engine and outdrive if you want to do the job safely. Please read this:

I appreciate it and el i have looked everywhere for a bearing and i know you told me that i could take it to a bearing supplier and match it but we dont have anything like that around here without having to drive 100 miles. DO you have an idea of a website that might sell them?

Doug Russell Marine will ship almost every VP part. I am not sure what engine / drive you have, but select it from the following page:

http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/volvo_omc/index.cfm?fuseaction=group&typ e=volvo&group=

They had the bearings for my AQ290 / 280 setup, #s 66 & 70 on the following page:

http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/volvo_omc/index.cfm?fuseaction=comp&grou p=2324&GroupList=2316,2317,2318,2319,2320,2321,2322,2324,2323,2325,2326,2327,232 8,2329,2330,2331,2332,2334,2335,2336,2337,2338,2339,2340,2341,2342,2343,2344,234 5,2346,2347,2348,2349,2350,2351,2352,2353,2354,2355,2356

The bearings will be listed under the "CONNECTING COMPONENTS" sub catergory.

Good luck.

When you remove the primary shaft (#69) inspect it's condition. Take some 600 grit paper and polish any burrs, corrosion or foreign material. This will ensure a nice fit between the shaft and the seal.

Good luck.

As Mike said, you need lip seals 70 & 74 and the bearing 71.

http://www.volvopentastore.com/CONNECTING_COMPONENTS_AQ_DRIVE_UNIT_270_275A/dm/c art_id.657400424--category_id.333144--list_time.1209566548--session_id.196162570 --store_id.366--view_id.327275

I do not have the bearing real number, but those are very common bearings. I never had problems getting bearings and seals locally from bearing suppliers.

Justin, same as the other one, the pilot bearing is a common type of bearing and should not be difficult to source. Also, remember that the pilot bearing does not turn, it only guides the shaft into the flywheel.

Well when i stick my finger in it its kind of rusty,no slack, just a little rusty so while i had the engine out i figured i would go on and change it but i might just grease it and let it be.

A new one will turn like this in 2-3 years unless it is very well greased during installation.
