Alright here they are I'm working on a 88 bayliner guy want a new electronic dizzy and needs a new carb because the throttle shaft is so worn out what do i buy? Volvo new carb Rebuilt from sierra Mallory dizzy pertronix drop in cost does not matter has any body put a Mallory in? scott_s el_pescador haffiman37 what would u do? |

As a general 'rule' I preferred to put in the 'originals' as it made service and parts more easier for the customer in the future, but. I would probably put in a Prestolite dizzy with Pertronix. As for carb, I would find it more 'safe' to put in a rebuild that probably has 'fresh' gaskets etc, than an original Volvo that might have been on the shelf for a decade or more. |

i have put in sierra carbs only thing is they smell like varnished gas! the dizzy is fine, he just wants to get rid of points |

I agree with Morten's opinion. Also, installing a Pertronix kit on a Prestolite takes just a few minutes, and the kits are reasonably priced. However, I would recommend that afterwards you take the dizzy to a shop so that they can check the advance curve. I have seen some of those dizzies having a curve waaaaay out of what it should be, and you don't want to end with and engine damaged due to detonation. |

Not in my own boats, but I know they don't have a bad press and the price is reasonable. |
