As a general 'rule' I preferred to put in the 'originals' as it made service and parts more easier for the customer in the future, but.
I would probably put in a Prestolite dizzy with Pertronix.
As for carb, I would find it more 'safe' to put in a rebuild that probably has 'fresh' gaskets etc, than an original Volvo that might have been on the shelf for a decade or more.

I agree with Morten's opinion. Also, installing a Pertronix kit on a Prestolite takes just a few minutes, and the kits are reasonably priced. However, I would recommend that afterwards you take the dizzy to a shop so that they can check the advance curve. I have seen some of those dizzies having a curve waaaaay out of what it should be, and you don't want to end with and engine damaged due to detonation.

Not in my own boats, but I know they don't have a bad press and the price is reasonable.
