Hi all. I am having some trouble finding spark plugs for my motor (AQ170A). Boat is new enough to me that I have not had to buy any until now. I took the plug ID numbers specified in the manual to 2 auto parts stores and they were able to cross ref. the numbers to some autolite plugs but neither store had them. I would really like to put in some of those high tech Bosch platinum, multi electrode plugs. But I can not determine which of these plugs will fit the motor and be correct temp range. For some reason neither NAPA or Autozone could cross ref. the autolite number to the Bosch platinum numbers. I run these platinum plugs in my cars and really like them. Would the plugs be the same for the AQ170 version of the motor as the car B30 version? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. If it turns out that I cannot get the Bosch plugs I really want what do you all suggest for plugs? would they be the same plugs as in AQ130? I plan on upgrading to a pertronics ignition soon. I am not sure if that matter for plug selection or not but I figured I'd throw it out there for consideration. manual specified plug numbers: Bosch W225T 35 (WB5) (,or Champion 814 RL82yc) text in paren.s (xx) written in margin by previous owner. Thanks a bunch. Matt |

I believe these are the same plugs the manual for my AQ130C calls for. The Bosch WB5 cross references to a NGK BP7HS which I have had very good luck with, albeit that is a standard plug. |

Marine plugs are different from their counterpart automotive plugs in that the steel used in them is a corrosion resistant alloy. Other than that they are the same. I would avoid multiprong spark plugs as there is no advantage to them. NGK is an excellent plug, probably the best production plug out there. Bob D's advise is good. I've had good luck with Autolite plugs over the years in both marine engines and in my cars but really there is little difference between the major brands (Champion, Autolite, AC, NGK, Bosch) Be sure to use anti-sieze on the threads of the plugs when installing. |

Thanks guys. I will look for some of those NGK plugs... and anti-sieze. Matt |
