I had the timing set a little to far advanced and burned a hole through # 2 piston. I have tried to find a new piston and the best I can do is one on the east coast for $262.00, thats about $200.00 more then the boat is worth. I have done a little research and found an automotive version of the same piston for $70.00 with rings and wrist pin and clips so I am going to try that and see if it will work. |

The engine timing was set for a higher elevation (4000 feet) we took the boat down to the snake river, elevation 1000 feet and it was pinging a little. I should have retarded the timing a bit but I didn't and while I was skiing behind the boat it was working harder and burn down piston # 2. You could tell it was burned though because it started puming oil out the blow-by tube. So we limped the boat back to shore and when I got it back to town and tore it apart I found a hole burned though the piston. The head, valves and cylinder walls were fine so I am just going to replace the piston and head gasket reset the timing and go boating. Thanks for the offer of the piston WCR. Dave |

Eric, your engine is an OHC and the AQ130 is an OHV. They are totally different animals. |

If you need pistons or other motor parts, try http://www.swedishpartswholesale.com/ The AQ130C is a B20 motor. I just rebuilt my 130 with new pistons, rings, and bearings I got from there and it worked great. |

Recognize that not all pistons in the AQ130 (4 cyl) and AQ170 (6 cyl) engines are created alike. The earlier engine (AQ130A) had 22mm piston pins and the later engines (AQ130B and AQ130C versions) had 24mm piston pins. The connecting rods were also different. The newer blocks would take either set of pistons and rods. The older blocks only took the older parts. I wouldn't mix things since the weight of the pistons and rods are suppose to be equal. Keep them as all 22mm or all 24 mm piston pin variety. |
