Ok here it goes again!
I have a 1981 Carver that was powered by a 350 with a Gen1 outdrive, i repowered it with a 454 and a Bravo2 outdrive. The problem i have is the drive is turning too far and was cutting the bellows, i filed down the sharp edge on the gimbal ring but now the gimbal ring is hitting the transom plate. It has power steering and i reused the original steering cylinder. Do the bravos use a shorter stroke cylinder the what the Gen1`s did? I need to solve this problem! HELP!

Most likely the hole in the transom is to large allowing the steering lever that connects to the steering cable to move to far. The only suggestion I would make would be to determine the correct swing of outdrive and make a hard stop and mount it on the transom to stop the arm/cable movement.

Allthough I have never seen an issue like this if you could post some pictures showing the steering lever at 0 ( straight ) and all the way to the right and the left. Maybe you may have a link or connection wrong.

Also who did the repower? if a marina they should be responsible for this if not then lets see whats going on.

From what i was told putting a stop on or against the arm may cause the steering arm to break thus loosing all steering. Thay are cast now, not Machined. The dealer that installed the drive couldn`t even find the leaking bellows, so this is way over their head!

Try to take some pictures from inside the boat looking at the steering lever where it connects to the steering assist and cable.

Maybe they hooked it up wrong giving you too much travel!!

If we can see maybe we can help.

Picture will be hard, but i will see what i can do. Everything looks to be hooked up correctly the best i and the other mechanics i had look at it can tell.
