Hi all, I was wondering if I could get an opinion on the below two pictures....I've read that I should watch out for metal whiskers attached to the magnetic end of the stern lube plug on the outdrive...but I don't know what is normal versus excessive. Here's a picture.

Also, I'm not sure what's considered "milky" stern lube. Does a mid-brown qualify (the picture makes the lube look a little lighter than it is, because of the light shining through it)

looks normal, but you should include ,year,
model, of what your posting about.

See whats normal for a brand new boat, or drive might not be normal for a 30 year old drive, boat.

Oil in pic you posted looks normal you could always run it thru a strainer to see how much metal is really in it.

agreed looks normal to me, take a little used drive lube, add some water to it and stir, when you see that milky color again you won't forget it.

Gotcha, great suggestion gl115 ;) Didn't think of that!

This is a 1996 Mercruiser Alpha One outdrive.

Thanks to all who responded!
