I have a 2003 4.3 mpi with the alpha gen II leg and there seems to be a fair bit of end float in the prop shaft about 2 to 3mm, is that normal?

it is the shaft that is moving in and out of the lower unit.

Ayuh,... In/ Out by about 1/8" is Normal...
Any side to side is Not...
