88 Baja gets stuck in forward, have to really pull to get into reverse. It has a 454 with bravo 1. A friend told me the interrupter is missing causing the problem.I just bought this boat, looks like a lot of things have been altered.Any thoughts?

No interupter switch with a bravo.

What are your idle rpms in gear and in neutral?

When was your gear lube changed last?

What gear lube is in it? Should be merc hiperformance. ( greenish blue in color)

Base on the year I would say it may be the upper cone clutch/gear assembly. cone clutch and shift linkage is worn/carroded.

This issue will take some investigation from someone with REAL knowledge of bravo 1 outdrives and not someone who "thinks" they may know.

Boat was just winterized, had new fluids at start of season(only went out twice for about 4 hours total).I was having some tachometer problems so I am guessing at best on the RPM`s.I am going to pull the drive off to check a few things any way,I will bring it to local shop and have it checked out.
