Hello,
I have a 1986 Mercruiser 3.7L 170 that seems to spray a very fine mist of oil from the tube attached to the spark arrestor. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could cause this and how to fix it? The oil loss does not appear to be significant. When I check the enginecompartment after use there will be a very thin film of oil on the engine and in the bilge. Last season I had to add about 1/2 quart of oil towards the end of the season. Usage for the boat last season was 4 or 5 times a week.

Bad rings,excessive blow-by.
Do a compression test and post the results |

Do what the Bt Dr. says; also smell the oil on the dipstick. Any hint of gasoline may be a leaking carb thinning the oil. |
