Hi, got a trade in with froze up lower unit. My first Nissan. I have worked on mostly OMC and Mercs over the last 40 years. Is the lower unit costly to rebuild with this kind of problem? Seems no external damage. Have not dismantled yet but if any Nissan authority knows about what normally happens or thinks its repairable within reason, pls direct me. Looks like water infection is the reason for failure. Thanks, Tim |

There isn't anything that normally happens. You will have to take it apart to check for damage. Parts cost about 50% more for Japanese engines, but they aren't as brittle as OMC's. |

Thanks.....kinda figured that, but just wanted to touch base here on Nissan site. Will dismantle and see extent of damage. Probably will be back with parts ordering options, no one handles Nissan here in town, but it looks like a nicely engineered machine. |
