Nissan NS40C lower unit problem

My first Nissan. I have worked on mostly OMC and Mercs over the last 40 years. Is the lower unit costly to rebuild with this kind of problem? Seems no external damage. Have not dismantled yet but if any Nissan authority knows about what normally happens or thinks its repairable within reason, pls direct me. Looks like water infection is the reason for failure. You will have to take it apart to check for damage. Will dismantle and see extent of damage. Probably will be back with parts ordering options, no one handles Nissan here in town, but it looks like a nicely engineered machine.
