While preparing for a fishing trip scheduled for the next day I tried to start my motor. No luck. Thinking that I had flooded the engine I let it set for a few minutes--then checked the primer bulb--it was hard--then tried again and again. No luck. It was then I heard a dripping noise. Decided to wait until next AM but, again no luck. Finally, about an hour later it started. For about 2-3 hours it ran perfectly at all speeds. Then while running at approx. 5000 RPMs the engine began to race and the boat slowed. Imediately throttled back and engine began to run perfectly. From then on, engine ran good if RPMs were kept below 4000 --anything above that it would run for a minute or two and then began to race. Was advised by a friend that problem could be leak in the fuel line. That is a hole in the line was causing the engine to suck air at the higher RPMs and the engine was " starved" for gas. What say you???

Its unlikely that a leak in the fuel system would cause you to increase RPMs. Usually that will cause an engine miss which actually drops RPMs.

I would say you have a prop problem, it sounds like the bush is spinning and when you start your engine from cold it will never flood without firing up first then dieing cause it has flooded.

Hold the choke on and cold start lever up until it starts
