Hello, User Manual says to check it every 100 hours or 6 months. What do you recommend when it should be changed to be in the safe side? I hear that the piston will damage the valve in the worst case. 200 hours behind and running fine. Thank's in advance and Greetings from Finland. |

If the belt breaks while the engine is running, you will have some serious damage to the valves. Better to change it and be on the safe side. |

They are designed to last at least 1000 hours. However, if it breaks out on the water you would be seriously screwed so, every five years or every 500 hours, whichever comes first. If you follow the owners manual maintenance on this one you would be throwing your money away |

1000 hours would mean about 20 years normal use, that is too long. Five years sounds much better. It seems to need tightning after 100hours, about 1-2 mm on the tension wheel. I have the original service manual and even that fat (2cm thick) book didn't say when the belt nor tension wheel should be changed. Thank's Guru. |

The owners manual, the manual that came with the engine, has the periodic maintenance schedule in it. They recommend belt replacement often, however, they do that for reasons of liability. Just look at the belt every so often and check it for cracks or tears. |
