I am about to purchase a 16ft flat bottom boat to duck hunt with. I am thinking about getting the 20hp Tohatsu for weight purposes. Will this motor push this boat okay or do I need to go bigger. Keep in mind I am no speed demon. lol I just want it to plane okay and run well. |

"Okay is a relative term. Figure two 250 lb rednecks with shotguns, one dumb bird dog, a 84 qt cooler filled with beer, another 100 lbs of gear, the boat, the engine and fuel....About 22-24 mph.
If you are a Yankee, add 25 lbs for additional "keep my butt from freezing" gear
I think that's fairly fast for the application Last time I went out, equipped the same way, we were in a 14', with a 15 hp and we did about 22. |
