My DT150 developed a problem about 4 months ago that I can't figure out. Literally, it worked fine one day and then started doing this 2 days later and has done it ever since.

The symptom is that the engine has to be cranked for a few minutes before it will start. To avoid burning out the starter, I do it in 10-15 second bursts. After the first 6 or so tries, one cylinder will start firing and this knocks the starter gear off the flywheel. From then on, you only get one revolution of cranking before that cylinder fires and knocks the gear off agin. After about 10 tries of that, more cylinders will start firing until eventually it starts up.

Once it runs, it will idle and run all day with no problem. It will stop and restart with no problem. If I let it sit for a day, it will quickly restart the next day. If I let it sit 2 days, usually. If I let it sit 3 days it's back to the hard-starting again.

When it first started happening, I took it to the shop and they said the gas was bad. However, I've been through 2 or 3 tanks of gas since then.

I have a fresh water separating filter (changed 3 times since this started). Compression is fine. Carbs were rebuilt in March. If plugs are pulled, they are wet. Cylinders are getting spark.

I've read everything everywhere about similar symptoms and I don't see anything that really matches. I'm pretty stuck at this point and would welcome any ideas. I've been reading this forum since I got the boat with the Zuke on it, about a year ago now.

Thanks in advance,
-E
